Failing example

[edit]

I tried using this template at this example:

https://en.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/Draft:Moderator_(town_official)#Weston

I notice that, in my example the note for a chapter looks like this:

9.2. ^ "4",

First of all, since the detail is placed on a separate line from the main citation, there is no way to know where it would have been placed within the main citation if it were all written on one line. Thus one can't tell if it is a page, volume, table number, or whatever. It is necessary to place some text with the detail value to indicate what is, such as "ch. 4".

Next, I don't understand why this value is in quotation marks but other values are not.

Finally, the commas after everything put the page number. I don't understand the inconsistency. Also, the last item has a comma after it, creating a sense of incompleteness.

Documentation request

[edit]

I request the documentation be improved to indicate the allowed values for each parameter. For example, integer (7), floating point number (6.136), string with no quotation marks (Abbreviations), string with quotation marks ("Use of parentheses"), or integer range (3-7) [That's an en dash between the 3 and the 7.] Jc3s5h (talk) 15:30, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
