English: This painting was made at the Tuileries Palace; it was left unfinished. A blow, from a pike, by a revolutionary is visible on the lower part of the work.
Français : "Aleksander Kucharski devint le nouveau portraitiste de la reine Marie-Antoinette quand la reine dû quitter Versailles pour s'installer aux Tuileries, après octobre 1789. La technique du pastel lui a permis ici de fixer rapidement, en une ou deux séances de pose, les traits de la reine. Resté inachevé, ce pastel touche le spectateur par la sensibilité qui s'en dégage. Kucharski, conscient de cette réussite, réutilisa cette image pour plusieurs portraits de la reine. J.T." [1]

  • presque détruit lors du voyage à Varennes, 1791 ;
  • reçu deux coups de piques, 10 août 1792 ;
  • retrouvé, selon la tradition, par le marquis de Tourzel, 1795 ;
  • par descendance, collection Augustine de Tourzel, duchesse des Cars, puis au duc Louis des Cars ;
  • acquis, grâce aux fonds de la sauvegarde de Versailles, au duc Louis des Cars avec la participation de Lady Deterding et M. Assis Chateaubriand, 9 avril 1954 ;
  • entré à Versailles, 8 mars 1954 ;
  • exposé dans la chambre de la Reine, 1954 ;
  • exposé dans les salles du XVIIIe siècle, salle des gardes du dauphin, salle 34, 1966 ;
